Man Utd to table big money offer for Real Madrid midfielder Diarra

07.01.11 | tribalfootball.com

Manchester United are preparing a £14 million offer for unsettled Real Madridmidfielder Lassana Diarra.
The Guardian says Diarra is believed to be keen on a move to Old Trafford.
Reports in Spain have said Diarra has asked for a new contract despite playing only a bit-part first-team role. The 25-year-old could then use the lack of a new deal from Madrid to seek a return to England.
Madrid have publicly stated there will be no transfer activity at the BernabĂ©u this month. However, they would almost certainly accept £14m, which is £3m more than was originally reported as United's valuation of the France international.

Man Utd boss Ferguson taking FA Cup seriously

United will field a full-strength team against Liverpool on Sunday.
"It's an important trophy so there is a strong desire to get our hands on it," said Sir Alex. "We haven't won it since 2004, or been to Wembley in the final since we lost to Chelsea in 2007.
"So we definitely want to get back there. And we want to win it."

Richards drops quit bombshell on Man City

07.01.11 | tribalfootball.com

Micah Richards is considering his future atManchester City.
The Sun says the defender is fed up with being in and out of the team and says that, at the age of 22, he cannot afford to be sitting on the bench.
Richards admits it may seem strange that he should want to get away with City standing second in the Premier League and battling it out with bitter rivals Manchester United for the title.
However, he insists the desire to play overrides all other factors.
He said: "I know people will be reading this wondering why I don't just shut up.
"City are second and they will say what the manager is doing is working and keeping us fresh but I know my ability and I want to show it. I'm not the sort of player who can just sit around and bank his wages.
"I've got no problem with the club or Roberto Mancini as a manager but he knows how I feel.
"I went to see the boss and told him how frustrated I was.
"He said I was part of his plans but I went three Premier League games without even getting on, started against Aston Villa, then didn't play against Blackpool. Sometimes I'm in, then Jerome Boateng comes in instead, or Pablo Zabaleta, or two of us play.
"It's in, out, in, out, mix and match."

Goal.com Special: 10 Possible Loan Deals In Premier League This January Transfer Window

Goal.com's Stefan Coerts looks at ten players who could switch clubs on a temporary basis in the Premier League in January.

By Stefan Coerts

Jan 5, 2011 4:30:00 AM

Wayne Bridge (Manchester City to West Ham United)

The experienced full-back has been struggling to secure regular first team football with Manchester City and is widely expected to leave the club in January. West Ham United are believed to be interested in signing Bridge and a loan deal could be on the cards.

Emmanuel Adebayor (Manchester City to Aston Villa)

Adebayor has never really managed to live up to the high expectations at the Citizens and appears to be surplus to requirements at City if Edin Dzeko arrives from Wolfsburg. Aston Villa are unlikely to be willing to meet City's asking price for the striker to lure him to Birmingham on a permanent basis, but a loan move could prove to be the solution to Adebayor's situation.

Ryan Babel (Liverpool to Birmingham City)

The former Ajax star has mainly been warming the bench at Liverpool this term and he doesn't really seem to have a future at Anfield. Liverpool have reportedly already refused a loan offer from Birmingham for the Dutch winger, but they could very well decide to let go of Babel after all if he hasn't found a new club by the end of the January transfer window.

Dani Pacheco (Liverpool to Fulham)

Pacheco impressed during the Under-19 European Championshions for Spain last summer, but this hasn't resulted in much playing time for the young attacker. He recently signed a contract extension with Liverpool, but is expected to be shipped out on loan this winter. Fulham are looking for attacking reinforcements and Pacheco could very well be on his way to London.

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas (Arsenal to Blackpool)

Regular first team football at Arsenal seems to be far away for the versatile attacker, but manager Arsene Wenger isn't ready to part company with Emmanuel-Thomas on a permanent basis just yet. He previously enjoyed a successful loan spell with Blackpool in 2009 and a return to the Seasiders could be on the cards in January.

Carlos Vela (Arsenal to Bolton Wanderers)

There's little doubt about the immense potential of the Mexico international, but Vela has mainly been warming the bench at Arsenal this term. The attacker needs regular first team football to develop into a better player and Bolton Wanderers are reportedly eager to add the forward to their roster.

Jeffrey Bruma (Chelsea to West Bromwich Albion)

The Dutch international has already stated that he wants more playing time in the second half of the season, but it remains to be seen whether Bruma will get that opportunity at Chelsea. Therefore, the center-back could be farmed out on loan and WBA could be his next destination. The Baggies are being plagued by defensive problems and are looking to add to their ranks in January.

Gael Kakuta (Chelsea to Wigan Athletic)

Kakuta was recently linked with a loan move to Olympique de Marseille, but the French giants denied they are interested in signing the young attacker. The 19-year-old is still expected to leave Chelsea on a temporary basis though. Wigan are eager to add some more creativity to their team this winter and Kakuta could be a good option for the Latics.

Richie de Laet (Manchester United to Wolverhampton Wanderers)

The Belgian defender spent the past couple of months on loan at Preston North End, but returned to United in December 2010. Manager Alex Ferguson doesn't consider De Laet to be a first team player though and he could very well be on his way out again in January. Wolverhampton have been far from impressive at the back and De Laet could certainly add something to their defense.

David Bentley (Tottenham Hotspur to Newcastle United)

Bentley appears to be surplus to requirements at Tottenham and is widely expected to leave the club this winter. Newcastle have already shown an interest in signing the winger, but they're unlikely to make a big money offer for Bentley without knowing whether he can find back his best form. A loan offer with the option to make the move permanent could be on the cards though.

Federico Macheda Eager To Impress At Sampdoria

New Sampdoria loan signing Federico Macheda says this is the move he wanted in order to guarantee more game time.

By Rick D'Andrea

New Sampdoria loan signing Federico Macheda has revealed he was keen to join Sampdoria after receiving permission from Manchester United to move to Italy for six months.

The 19-year-old says he had spoken with Red Devils coach Sir Alex Ferguson prior to his transfer to the Ligurian-based club, and hopes to do well.

"This is what I really wanted. After speaking with Ferguson about playing more football, I am happy with his move," 'Kiko' stated toSky Sport 24. "I am here to do well.

"Ferguson told me to become a better player and return to Manchester stronger. I also think I will return to England once the loan period is over."

The 19-year-old also doesn't want to be compared to former Blucerchiati striker Antonio Cassano.

"It is a big comparison. I am here to improve myself, and hope to bring many satisfactions to the Sampdoria fans," he concluded.

Report: Lassana Diarra Tells Real Madrid He Wants To Leave After Receiving An Offer From Manchester United

Jan 6, 2011 4:20:00 AM

The FA have denied holding talks with Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp and LA Galaxy midfielder David Beckham concerning the future of the England team.

The 25-year-old Frenchman has become a fringe player at the Bernabeu since the arrival of Sami Khedira from Stuttgart, and his lack of first-team football is thought to have propelled him to want a move away from the Spanish heavyweights.

And according to Marca, the former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder has informed his employers of his intention to leave the club, as he is thought to have an offer to ply his trade with the Red Devils.

Earlier reports point towards United willing to spend around €13 million to acquire Diarra's services.

Javier Hernandez insists he is enjoying his time at Manchester United, having made a move from his hometown club Guadalajara during the summer.

The 22-year-old striker agreed to join United in April, after a sum believed to be in the region of £7 million had been agreed between the two clubs.

"Of course it is flattering, because Ole is is a legend at Manchester United," the Mexican added.

"I'm only 10 per cent of what Ole was. I need to work harder and keep improving to become like him."

“I always pray on the pitch before a game. It is an important routine for me but it is not superstition,” Chicharito told the Mirror.
“I like to pray. I talk to God and I tell him to take care of the health of both teams because the worse thing for a sportsman are injuries and there are a lot of accidents on the pitch that nobody wants.

Sir Alex Ferguson Hails Javier Hernandez After 2-1 win Over Stoke

Boss says surprise starters have never let him down when given a chance.

By Danny Hart

Jan 4, 2011 6:11:00 PM

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has praised his players after Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Stoke City saw them maintain their unbeaten record in the Premier League this season.

Javier Hernandez and Nani were on the scoresheet for the Red Devils as they extended their lead at the top of the table to three points.

Ferguson rested Edwin van der Sar, Gary Neville and Rio Ferdinand for the clash at Old Trafford, while Wayne Rooney failed to recover from the ankle injury picked up in the win over West Brom at the weekend.

But the United boss believes their deputies, who included Chris Smalling and Hernandez, didn’t let him down and made life difficult for Stoke.

“We’ve got such a determined bunch of lads - they never give in, they make it difficult for every team,” Ferguson told Sky Sports.

“We made some changes tonight, just to keep the squad motivated but also to give them enough game time - we’ve got Liverpool on Sunday, we’ve got Tottenham next week, we’ve got a rearranged game with Blackpool, so we’ve got a busy month and it’s important to get these players playing.

“You’ve got to have faith and trust in the players - that’s important, and I think they’ve earned that trust because I see them every day in training and they’ve never let me down.”

Ferguson also hailed Hernandez after grabbing his ninth goal of the season with an expert flick to give United the lead.

He added: "[It was a] great run from Chichi [Hernandez] on the first one. We keep telling strikers we’re going to cross to that front post - he’s excellent at it, and of course Nani’s goal was sensational.”

The agent of Udinese striker Alexis Sanchez believes the 22-year-old has the talent to be as dominant as Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo.

Fernando Felicevich also confirmed that the Inter and Manchester United target will not be leaving the Zebrette in January, but did leave open the possibility of a move during the summer.

"For the moment, there is no chance of a move during January, but we shall see what happens in six months," the representative declared to the press.

"Manchester United are in the running, but they are not the only English club that wants him. There are also offers from Italy and Spain.

"In six months time, we could see him elsewhere, but at the moment it is difficult to say where he will end up.

"Alexis is a young player with a big future. He has a lot of talent and if he continues like this, he can reach the same levels as Cristiano Ronaldo," he concluded.

Manchester United 2-1 Stoke City: Sublime Nani Finish Opens Three Point Lead In Title Race

Red Devils extend unbeaten record thanks to two moments of brilliance.

By Phil Haigh

Manchester United went into this home game hoping to extend their impressive undefeated record in the league, but would have to do so without Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand or Edwin van der Saar, none of whom were in the squad. Stoke were trying to get their first win against United in the Premier League.
Despite the disparity in the statistics it was a very even start to the game as the numerous changes to the home side’s line-up seemed to be disrupting their rhythm, whilst the visitors showed they weren’t afraid to attack with the likes of Matthew Etherington and Tuncay Sanli being especially adept to the counter-attack.
Few chances emerged in the first fifteen minutes with the final ball letting United down on the odd occasion. However it was clear that Stoke's attacking threat was going to be short-lived as they quickly left all the forward thinking football to the home side. Darron Gibson showed he was in his usual shoot on sight mood as he flashed a shot over the bar from range which was as close as anyone came in the opening exchanges.
Manchester United created very little until the 27th minute when a moment of brilliance broke the deadlock. Dimitar Berbatov played the ball out to the right to Nani who had far too much time to pick out his man in the middle which he did to perfection.
Javier Hernandez was making a darting run to the near post and met the cross with a beautiful back-heel flick which Asmir Begovic in the Stoke goal clearly was not expecting as it beat him at his near post leaving the former Portsmouth ‘keeper on his backside.
The home side didn’t really build on this in the way you may have expected them to as their only efforts on goal in the next ten minutes were wayward long range attempts from Nani. Marc Wilson from the opposing side had a similarly high and wide effort that was Stoke’s only real attempt on goal of the first half.
By the 37th minute though it was a Nani/Hernandez combination that saw United come close to doubling their lead. The Portuguese winger nodded the ball back across the danger area which again was met by the Mexican but his shot blazed over the bar, seemingly taking a deflection, but the officials thought otherwise.
As the first half came to a close it appeared to be a performance typical of Manchester United this season. There is no way anyone could say they had totally dominated the game, or even played particularly well, but were winning the match thanks to a moment of brilliance, and without threatening too much themselves, also hadn’t looked too much like conceding.
It might not be inspirational stuff, but it’s effective and United were very happy with the lack of adventure shown by Stoke.
