Sampdoria president Riccardo Garrone is looking forward to the arrival of Manchester United starlet Federico Macheda and believes he will be a capable replacement for now-Milan striker Antonio Cassano.
Earlier on Monday, the Italy Under-21 international's agent revealed a loan deal was only lacking an official announcement and that Macheda could be available for the Blucerchiati's clash with Roma on Sunday.
"He will fill the void left by Cassano and surely do fine," Garrone was quoted as saying by Rai Sport at a friendly match in Bogliasco, basically confirming the move.
"In these [next] five months we will treat him well. With him [on board] enthusiasm has increased ten fold."
The latest reports indicate that the deal could be finalised by Tuesday evening. Macheda is considered a rising star on the European scene, but has seen his playing time at Manchester United limited due to their wealth of talent up front that includes Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov, and Javier Hernandez.
