Manchester United bossSir Alex Ferguson expects a cracking game on Monday against Arsenal.
Although Sir Alex concedes that the rivalry between the two sides hasn’t been quite as intense since the emergence of Chelsea as a major force back in the 2004/05 campaign, he still always anticipates a match full of drama whenever the pair go up against each other.
“The games, particularly four or five years ago, were so important because both of us were challenging for league titles,” said the Scot to Manutd.com. “Chelsea have now come in and it’s been ourselves and Chelsea over the last five years.
“Nonetheless, it’s Manchester United against Arsenal and the history of both teams always guarantees a match of intensity and a lot of the time, controversy.
“I think Monday night’s game will be more or less the same because the pride and history of both clubs determine that.”
He added: "I think they'll still try to play the attractive football Arsene believes in, but there's definitely been a slight change.
“They’re top of the league - that’s a sure indication that they are better than they were last year and they’ll have a chance.”

Sir Alex Ferguson has pleaded with Manchester United's fans to refrain from their usual disgraceful chanting towardsArsene Wenger at Old Trafford on Monday night.
The Frenchman has been singled out for one particularly abusive song during previous encounters with United, with Ferguson finds offensive in the extreme.
And, ahead of the meeting between the Premier League's top two, the Red Devils chief has urged his club's supporters to restrict their backing to the team rather than singling out individuals.
"I plead to our fans. They have got to stop that kind of thing," he told MUTV.
"I have faced it myself in the past. I have had some chants at various grounds up and down the country and it is not a nice thing.
"We have a great rivalry with Arsenal. But it shouldn't extend to those levels, not forManchester United.
"I hope we don't hear any more of that."

The biggest match of the year is set for some prime time attention.

By Shane Evans

Biggest match of the year so far? Check. 80,000 screaming fans? Check. National television attention? Check. Samir Nasri’s snood? Check.

Yes, as you all know by now, Manchester United will welcome Arsenal to Old Trafford on Monday in a match that will determine who will head into next week’s round of fixtures in first place. As it stands right now, Arsenal sit atop the table by a point. United are second having played one less match.

Big match, right? Ya, I’ll say. It’d give a dog a bone.

Doesn’t end there, though. Moving south down the M1, there is an excellent match to take in involving two more of the league’s top clubs. A struggling Chelsea side will make their annual trip to Three Point Lane to take on a much more dangerous Tottenham side in what should be the closest encounter these two have had in years. Maybe enough so that I’ll stop calling White Hart Lane cheesy nicknames.

To wrap things up in a deranged bow of dysfunction, I’ll take a quick look see at the match going on at St. James’ Park between two of the country's biggest enigmas Newcastle and Liverpool.

And that’s that. Insert played out statement of commencement here.

Manchester United Full-Back Patrice Evra Labels Arsenal A ‘Training Center’ And Claims Trophy Drought Is ‘Ridiculous’

But we are going to enjoy playing against them, says Frenchman

Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has slammed Arsenal as a "training center", due to their lack of silverware in recent years.

The two sides clash at Old Trafford on Monday, with the Gunners having not won any significant honor since the FA Cup in 2005 when they beat United on penalties.

At the time, the game was goalless after 120 minutes of play, and the spot-kicks saw Patrick Vieira score to help his side to the trophy - in what was to be his last kick of the ball for the north London club.

Fast forward five years, and Arsene Wenger's men are yet to win some silverware, prompting the Frenchman to add more emphasis on the League Cup this term.

Ahead of the Premier League game between the two sides, Evra told French TV channel Canal+: "Arsenal, a big club like that, have won nothing for five years. For me, it's a crisis, it's ridiculous.

Theo Walcott Hopes Arsenal Play ‘Without Fear’ Against Manchester United

ates to produce a fearless performance when they take on Manchester United.

The two heavyweights clash at Old Trafford on Monday, with the Gunners occupying top spot in the Premier League while Sir Alex Ferguson's men are one-point behind with a game in hand.

The north London club have won five of their eight games away from home, while two draws mean that they have suffered only a solitary league defeat away from the Emirates this term.

"We must go to Old Trafford and play without fear," Walcott was quoted as saying by The Sun.

"We must enjoy ourselves and express ourselves, then our best performance will come out.

"United are not playing their best but are still there. They haven't lost.

"Hopefully, we won't catch them on a good day because, right now, they are not playing well but are still second in the league.

During the recent game against Partizan in the Champions League, it was Walcott's substitution that arguably changed the course of the game. The former Southampton man came on after 67 minutes with the score line deadlocked at one apiece and managed to give his side the lead, before fellow midfielder Samir Nasri ensured that a place in the last 16 was in the offing.

Having put in a strong performance on the European stage, the 21-year-old is looking to make his first start at Old Trafford.

Walcott said: "Being 21, I want to be starting games. I want to show the boss what I can do and he probably has a headache for Monday's game.

"So fingers crossed, I can look forward to it - as these are the games you always want to play in.

"I've never started at Old Trafford so it would be another milestone for me. We need to get something there."

Manchester United defender Jonny Evans is set to leave in January.
The Sun says he will be sent out on loan in a bid to rebuild his shattered confidence.
Alex Ferguson gave Evans, 22, the 'hairdryer' treatment afterManchester United's 4-0 Carling Cup humiliation at West Ham.
United have shipped 15 goals in the nine league games the defender has played this season.
Manager Ferguson is concerned by his loss of form and even Evans admits his displays have not been up to scratch this term.
He said: "This is probably the biggest challenge I have had.
"It is the first time I have been taken out of the team because of performances."

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has warned Monday's opponents Manchester United they feel capable of beating anyone.
United have the best home record, with seven victories out of eight - the last a 7-1 thrashing of Blackburn.
So something, or someone, will have to give - and Fabregas is determined it will not be Arsenal.
The Spanish midfield maestro told The Sun: "We are in a good position and we are very confident.
"We are winning games, playing well and scoring goals.
"We believe we are capable of beating anyone, anywhere."
But the 23-year-old knows there can be no more slip-ups.
He admitted: "We still need to improve if we are to win the Premier League.
"We are winning games again now but know we can defend better and attack better. We know we can be more compact as a team. We also know it will be very tough, because I am sure Chelsea and United will both find their form and both will fight to the very end.
"So the more games we can win now, the better - and where better to start than at United?"

Man Utd fullback Evra: Believe me, Arsenal are no Barcelona

Manchester United fullback Patrice Evra has brandedArsenal lightweights.
Evra claims United look forward to playing Arsenal because they are weak and give United room to play.
He said: "We really enjoy ourselves when we play Arsenal. They are a side that plays good football and won't turn up with 11 in defence.
"But the difference between us and them is we play good football, but have strength as well.
"Arsenal sometimes fail to kill off their games - but by contrast we are more efficient.
"People get too easily taken in by Arsenal's style of play. I hear people comparing them toBarcelona. But people won't remember Arsenal's style of football in 20 years' time."
"It made me laugh when people said 'Arsenal, the Barcelona of the French.' Barcelona play well, but they win! What interests me is a team that wins."

Sir Alex Ferguson: Manchester United Can Cope With Anyone We Get In The Next Round Of The Champions League

United boss in confident move despite draw with Valencia

By Ben Bradley

Dec 8, 2010 9:43:00 AM

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes his squad can deal with "anything we get" after progressing to the Champions League knockout stages.
Tuesday night's draw with Valencia at Old Trafford rounded off proceedings as Ferguson's men reached the knockout stages for the 14th time in the last 15th seasons.
The draw saw United top their qualifying group to prevent meeting teams like Barcelona and Real Madrid in the next round but potential ties against reigning European champions Inter and Serie A league leaders AC Milan are still available.
"You have to take who you get," Sir Alex told the club's official website, when asked about potential draws.
"I think we’ve got the squad, we can cope with anything we get."
The Reds conceded their first goal of the Champions League against Valencia due to a mistake from Michael Carrick but Ferguson chose to concentrate on topping the group.
"Michael knows better," said Sir Alex.
"It’s just one of these unfortunate things. I thought he had a terrific game apart from that. But it’s always nice to get records.
"Until last week we went 29 games without losing, for instance, and eventually you’re going to lose.
"Tonight we were going for six clean sheets and we didn’t get it, but the important thing is winning the group is more important than a goal record.
"I think we should’ve won the game. We had a lot of chances. Berba could have scored another four or five tonight, but the goalkeeper made some great saves.
"The most important thing was coming first after a game which I thought was quite entertaining. It was a good quality match and I’m quite pleased."
Had United kept a clean sheet last night they would have been the first side in European history to make it through the group stages without conceding a goal.

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas will be given every chance to get himself right for Monday’s vital Premier League clash with Manchester United.
The league-leading Gunners take on the second-placed Red Devils at Old Trafford in what could be a season-defining clash and may have their inspirational skipper with them.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says a decision on the Spaniard, who has missed the past two league matches with a hamstring strain, will not be made until match day.
“We could have Cesc Fabregas (back), but there is a big uncertainty if he can be in the squad or not. That will be decided very late,” said Wenger.
In other Gunners injury news, left-back Kieran Gibbs is set for three weeks with an ankle injury sustained in Wednesday’s Champions League win over Partizan Belgrade but will be replaced by Gael Clichy who should return from illness whilst Johan Djourou is responding well to treatment on his thigh problem.

Manchester United winger Nani is excited about their looming clash with Arsenal.
Nani scored in last season's 3-1 win at the Emirates Stadium and admits matches against Arsenal will always capture his imagination.
He told MUTV: “It’s always a fantastic game. Everyone wants to play the big games and I think it will be a fantastic atmosphere. Arsenal are doing well but we are doing well, too. We just have to concentrate on our own performance and try to win.”

Vidic enjoying Man Utd captaincy role

Nemanja Vidic is enjoying his role as Manchester United captain this season.
Vidic is pleased with the form he has shown this season since being handed the armband by managerSir Alex Ferguson.
He said: "Obviously there's a bit more responsibility and I'm coming to the age when I have more responsibility, me and a few others in the team.
"I am quite happy with that and I'm enjoying it.
"It's not a question you should ask me, about my performances and how I play this season. I'm at an age now where I have to take more responsibility as a player.
"When I came here I was 24 and I was still young and a lot of older players took responsibility on the pitch.
"But now I have to do that, be supportive to the younger players and be an example. It's something that comes naturally as you get older.
"The more responsibility you have and the more pressure you have, I think the better your focus and concentration are. So it helps."

Man Utd boss Ferguson wants 25 goals from Berbatov

Manchester United bossSir Alex Ferguson was 25 goals from Dimitar Berbatov this season.
Berbatov became the fourth striker in Premier League history to score five in one match, when he led the 7-1 demolition of Blackburn last weekend.
Fergie said: “We need two players to get us 25 or more. Last season, Rooney got us 34 and Berbatov got us only 12.
“But 25 is absolutely achievable for Berbatov and if Rooney gets on track, then we could have a decent scoring record. Our goal difference was disappointing last season.
“We’ve got 17 different scorers so far this season and as a team they’ve done well. Berbatov has got his goals, Nani has got us four or five and so has Ji-Sung Park. We’re just waiting for Rooney to spark.”

Man Utd boss Ferguson denies losing confidence in Evans

Fergie insisted there was no problem with Jonny Evans, who was subbed after a poor performance in the 4-0 Carling Cup defeat at West Ham.
“He had a bad game but he’s not the only person to have had a bad game,” said Ferguson. “For a centre-back he’s still young. He had a great season last time and there’s no problem.”
